Sandi Stewart at Gallery at City Club

The most important aspect of my role as curator of shows at Gallery at City Club in Lafayette is the selection of artists for each group show. Not only do I have to be sure the artist is a recognizable name in the Lafayette market, I have to ensure that the mix of styles and subjects of the work of the artists in the show is effective and complementary of one another.

When putting together the current show (on view through March 31st), I knew I would have abstract paintings by Mallory Chastant, floral and fruit paintings by Hope Hebert, and the primarily architectural paintings by Dana Manly. I needed an artist whose paintings were somewhere in between the styles of the above mentioned three. New Iberia, LA, native Sandi Stewart fit the bill perfectly.

Now living in Lafayette, LA, Sandi's paintings have been in shows at Tsunami and The Big Easel in Lafayette, and A&E Gallery in New Iberia.
Primarily known for paintings of Louisiana landscapes, I selected a few more abstract pieces for City Club.

updated post with updates in italics:

Mallory Chastant...I've written about her many times...I've seen almost every painting she has created..and I still LOVE her work! and she STILL inspires, amazes, and surprises me with each series she comes up with.

I predicted when I first met Mallory nearly 2 years ago that she would have a very bright future in the art world. This prediction is coming true...in 2010, paintings by Mallory Page Chastant will be shown in eight cities in five states!

As of today, Mallory Page Chastant's paintings are in Florida--at Mrs. Howard/Max & Company in Jacksonville and Jacksonville Beach, FL; and at 119 Quincy Circle in Seaside, FL.
