The most important aspect of my role as curator of shows at Gallery at City Club in Lafayette is the selection of artists for each group show. Not only do I have to be sure the artist is a recognizable name in the Lafayette market, I have to ensure that the mix of styles and subjects of the work of the artists in the show is effective and complementary of one another.
When putting together the current show (on view through March 31st), I knew I would have abstract paintings by Mallory Chastant, floral and fruit paintings by Hope Hebert, and the primarily architectural paintings by Dana Manly. I needed an artist whose paintings were somewhere in between the styles of the above mentioned three. New Iberia, LA, native Sandi Stewart fit the bill perfectly.
Now living in Lafayette, LA, Sandi's paintings have been in shows at Tsunami and The Big Easel in Lafayette, and A&E Gallery in New Iberia.
Primarily known for paintings of Louisiana landscapes, I selected a few more abstract pieces for City Club.
