Big Easel Preview 2: Breaux Bridge, LA fun!

Breaux Bridge, LA (app. 7,500 friendly folks) was named one of the coolest small towns in America in 2009. Budget Travel magazine (one of my favorites) and Yahoo Travel both ran the story featuring the well-known highlights Cafe des Amis (try the grilled shrimp croissant sandwich) and Lucullus Antiques (a must for fabulous high-end antiques shopping). Clearly the travel writers didn't browse Rue du Pont Galerie et Studio or meet Lue Svendson, extraordinarily talented (and charming) artist and landscape architect, while making the rounds in the cute village. Or maybe they were just too full and too tired from dancing at the Zydeco brunch at Cafe des Amis which is directly across the street from the gallery. Lue is cooler than cool and no fool when it comes to choosing the location of a business.

In a lovely circa 1850 cottage on Bridge Street in downtown Breaux Bridge, the doors of Rue du Pont Galerie et Studio were opened wide in November 2008. Since then, Lue has assembled an impressive group of artists that show in the eclectic (something for everyone, another smart element of a business plan) gallery. From abstract to realism, painting to photography, oil and acrylic, it is all at Rue du (my affectionate and much easier to say name).

Of the artists currently displaying their works at Rue du, seven will be among the 61 artists showing their work at the Big Easel in Lafayette, LA, on Saturday, May 8th. The pieces below are for sale now at Rue du and these are my curator picks for what to run to Breaux Bridge to purchase...fast, because any given Saturday will find Breaux Bridge hopping and those with a nose for the good stuff always pop into Rue du to snatch up a little something to take home with them!

I am nearly finished installing the April/May/June group show, paintings by eight fantastic artists, at Gallery at City Club.

I thought you might enjoy a sneak peek of what I've been up to...between getting this show together and preparing for the upcoming Big Easel in Lafayette which will be Saturday, May 8th, I am one very busy Jeffery!

Five of the artists in the new show are also artists participating in the Big Easel so this post is a sneak peek of the City Club show as well as Big Easel Preview Part 1..enjoy!

(2) Landscapes by Kathy Dumesnil mixed with "Landslide" by Hope Hebert and "Rouge Series Diptych" by Mallory Page Chastant

A mixed media framed landscape by Kathy Dumensil above an abstract landscape by Frankie DeMelo, perfectly complemented by floral by Hope Hebert

mixing the unexpected always works! here I paired a floral (what she is primarily known for) by Julie Breaux with one of her colorful and bright abstracts
