Gallery at City Club Fitness Center-Part 1-Lue Svendson

Lue Svendson's paintings at the Gallery at City Club

Last night was the official opening of a new project of mine.  The "Gallery" at City Club Fitness Center in River Ranch, Lafayette, LA, came to fruition because of Mary Beth Langlinais, manager of City Club, having the desire to showcase art by Louisiana artists in the Fitness Center side of City Club.  I know, I know..you are probably thinking "art in a fitness center??", but don't worry, the paintings aren't nudged between weight sets and elliptical trainers.  City Club has a fantastic main area that is just perfect for a gallery style show.  Add the boutique area, the hallways leading to the locker rooms, a curator (moi, of course), and six very talented Lafayette artists, and...a "gallery" is born!

I was asked to curate the shows which will be quarterly and for the Inaugural show I chose six artists whose work I know well.  For the next six weeks, I will feature my three or four favorite pieces by each of these artists.

This feature is on Lue Svendson, Lafayette painter and landscape architect, and a dear friend. (in photo above). Lue's bio:

Louisiana native Lue Svendson is a painter and landscape architect. Lue's work in paint and nature exist world wide in Dubai, Costa Rica, and the United States.

Born in 1952, Lue was encouraged to think creatively from a young age.  Since she was was a young girl she has had a natural ability in drawing using pencil, charcoal and watercolor. She was pushed by her parents in this direction.  As she got older, she moved toward her professional choice to combine her love of art and nature to become a landscape architect.
A few years ago, Lue began painting again in earnest and her work has been featured in more then twenty shows and art events in the Lafayette and Baton Rouge area. Lue's landscape design background brings a cultured maturity to her paintings which are primarily done in oil paints.

Lue has been influenced by the techniques of Sergei Bongart, George Inness and her teacher Pat Bourque of Lafayette.  Other than her degree in landscape architecture from LSU, her art education has consisted of individual art classes and seminars.

The City Club Show features ten paintings by Lue.  My favorite three are:

The View from my Window, Boats in a Row, and Contemporary Twilight
